EXTREME PRECIPITATION EVENTS AND ASSOCIATED RISK OF FAILURE IN HYDRAULIC PROJECTS IN THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL, BRAZIL

It is necessary to know the extreme occurrences of precipitation in a region for satisfactory design infrastructure projects. Tropical climate regions are characterized their heavy rainfall events during summer, and recent years, as result change, such becoming recurrent. A theoretical probability distribution model typically used extrapolate high return periods. In this study, it was verified whether models efficient an estimation normative recommended period. Five cities Mato Grosso do Sul State, located midwest Brazil, that have been affected by disasters caused were adopted case study.
